Clara Helle

Clara is an outstanding student leader whose positive impact is felt throughout VMS each and every day. She is a founding member of the VMS Writer’s Club and has been an active member of the band since 6th grade. She is known for her exceptional leadership, her kindness, and her willingness to step in and help—often before anyone even asks. Clara makes it a point to greet staff each day, calling many of them by name, and consistently contributes to the warm and welcoming atmosphere we strive for at VMS.

Her involvement extends across many areas of our school community. Clara participates in Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, WEB Leadership, Volleyball, and Math League. Beyond school, she continues to demonstrate her commitment to service and personal growth by volunteering at the YMCA and participating in her church youth group.

When we spoke with Clara and her family, we learned even more about the well-rounded, multi-talented young person she has become. Clara is also a skilled deer hunter, an experienced fisherperson, and is incredible at snorkeling and diving for lobsters—unique talents that highlight her adventurous spirit and broad range of interests.

Clara embodies leadership, kindness, and curiosity, and she represents the very best of VMS. We are proud to recognize her tonight for her contributions, character, and commitment to our school community.

Flynn Steklenski

Flynn is an exceptional student leader whose dedication, positivity, and involvement make a meaningful impact at VMS every day.  He is a founding member of the VMS Writer’s Club. Although he is not participating this year due to other commitments, his early leadership helped shape the club and set it up for continued success. Flynn has been a committed member of the band since 6th grade and is involved in tennis, demonstrating both creativity and athleticism.

A natural leader, Flynn serves our school community in multiple roles. He is the secretary for both Student Council and National Junior Honor Society, reflecting the trust his peers and staff place in him. He is also a dedicated WEB Leader, supporting younger students and modeling what it means to be responsible, kind, and engaged.

Flynn is known for his daily actions that build a positive school climate—he makes a point to greet staff members, often by name, and brings warmth and maturity to every interaction. His involvement extends beyond leadership roles as well. Flynn has participated in Math Team and Book Club, and he was a member of the Book Bowl team that won the competition last year at Vandenberge. Though he couldn’t participate in Math Team this year due to other activities, his enthusiasm for learning and teamwork continues to shine.

Flynn exemplifies leadership, kindness, and academic excellence. His contributions strengthen our school community, and we are proud to recognize him tonight for the outstanding role he plays at VMS.
